A passion for Bonsai, a Japanese art of cultivating miniature trees, was the reason the Arduino Plant Watering System came into existence, as well as the interest of the Robotics Study Group in exploring the Arduino platform. Our professor Ph.D. Solange da Silva, came up with the idea and requirements to build a programmable plant watering system. We developed a prototype using Arduino, LCD display, and control buttons. The user was able to setup the timing and amount of water needed, reading instructions on the LCD display. The project was presented at the university technology week of 2011.
